As part of my volunteer work on the board of directors of Edheads—an educational nonprofit that produces science content for students—I produced a mixed-media highlight reel designed to visually communicate a mission that can be difficult to capture in words alone: inspiring young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
The project was built to support outreach, fundraising, and partner engagement by transforming a purely conceptual idea into a compelling narrative experience.
I handled the production end to end, including:
- Scheduling and conducting interviews with former Edheads users who went on to work in STEM fields
- Crafting the story structure and messaging
- Editing video in Adobe Premiere
- Producing animations and visual effects in After Effects
- Preparing and compositing imagery in Photoshop
The reel blended live interviews, archival content, motion graphics, and visual storytelling to demonstrate the real-world impact of early STEM exposure.
Why It Mattered
Edheads’ work is rooted in long-term influence—sparking curiosity that may not show measurable outcomes for years. That makes communicating the org’s impact challenging.
By creating a visually engaging, emotionally grounded reel anchored by authentic success stories, the organization gained a tool that helps audiences connect mission to outcome. It illustrates not just what Edheads does, but what it enables—students growing into professionals who shape the future.
The project allowed me to combine storytelling, media production, and education advocacy to give tangible form to an abstract but deeply meaningful goal.
Most meaningfully, the period immediately after the video’s release was one of the largest increases in donations in years.
